How to Run for Director

We welcome any member of our system to run as a director. Each director represents a specific region within our service area. The qualifications are listed below.

  • You must be a member of the cooperative, and be a bona fide resident of the specific region you are representing.

  • You must be willing to promote and safeguard the interests of the cooperative members and general public.

  • You must not be employed or have a financial interest in any way in any enterprise competing against the cooperative, or in a business selling electric energy or other type of energy which may be considered to be a competitor in the energy market.

  • You must not be employed or have a financial interest in a business selling supplies to the cooperative.

  • You must not be a husband, wife, mother, father, brother, sister, child or in-law of a current employee or director of the cooperative.

  • No director may serve more than seven consecutive three-year terms, and will be required to remain out of office for at least one three-year term before becoming eligible for re-election.

  • Newly elected directors must complete NRECA's Director Certification Program within a reasonable amount of time. Attending scheduled training sessions will be required.

  • Elections are held during the cooperative's annual meeting.
